This article will tell you all you need to know about our beginners' challenge

Time is running! Enter your pastel until 25 November!

We want autumn flowers, leaves or mushrooms en plein air and not setup still lifes. No landscapes, either!

Of course you can use photos of autumn flora; painting plein air in Autumn can be a bit too nippy..You surely have taken photos of colored leaves or gorgeous autumn flowers in a flowerbed - think chrysanthemums or dahlias. We just want them as they grow in nature and not in a bunch or arrangement.

Jude Tolar is our guest judge for November’s Get Dusty. Florals - 'Autumn beauty in nature'

This months Award winning guest judge Jude Tolar studied at Oklahoma State University and went on to have a career in graphic design and illustration which led to her writing and illustrating children’s books.

In recent years she has focused on fine art, working mainly from life. She used pastels as a way to study color and work easily en plein air, and immediately loved the results and feels that today’s soft pastels and sanded surfaces offer many exciting painting options.

Her art is lyrical and representational, and celebrates beauty and joy in the world. She is known mainly for her floral and tree portraits en plein air and for glass subjects in the studio. She prefers working from life, using mostly Terry Ludwig soft pastels on Art Spectrum ColourFix paper.

She exhibits regularly in invitational group shows and solo shows, and her work is in collections across the US. She also demonstrates her pastel techniques to art groups and teaches pastel workshops on various subjects.
