These are our Get Dusty challenges for 2021. For each Get Dusty we will publish a short article with an explanation of the challenge!

December 2020/January 2021 - Free Choice > CLOSED!

Deadline January, 25, 2021

You are free to choose the category (Still life/Floral, Landscape, Animal, Portrait/Figure), as long as your painting is about the colour 'Blue'.

 

February 2021 - Category: Portrait/Figure - Challenge: Young child > CLOSED

The category for our February Get Dusty is 'Portrait/Figure', the challenge is 'Young child'. That includes babies and toddlers and ends with pre-schoolers i.e. five years would be our age threshhold for this challenge.

March 2021 - Category: Landscape/Seascape - Challenge: Costal scene

Show us where land meets sea and both interact. Rugged cliffs, wide bays, harbours are all part of the coastal landscape. Both, land and sea must be part of your entry, please do not enter a pure landscape or seascape.> CLOSED

April 2021 - Category: Animal - Challenge: Group of animals

Must be more than 2 animals of the same species: a gaggle of geese, herd of cows, horses, school of dolphins, swarm of fish of the same species

May 2021 - Category: Still Life - Challenge: A natural still life with stones, wood, dry leaves or seashells

No man-made objects, no freshly cut flowers or leaves. We want to see a veritable 'nature morte'

In this challenge we want to see the small inhabitants of your garden; snails, insects, spiders, caterpillars etc; all those creepy-crawlies we tend to overlook. No birds and no mammals, please!

Get Dusty Information Sheet for Guest Judges

Each Get Dusty competition closes on the 25th of the month it runs.

The gallery can be reached through the PGE home page. Until the 26th, the current competition entries can be viewed by clicking on the link in the left-hand column under ‘Latest Get Dusties’. To see the entries in a bigger format, just click on the thumbnails.

Until the 27th, a member of the board deletes any entries that do not comply with the competition rules.

On the 28th, the guest judge can commence judging by viewing the entries online. As this competition is now closed, you have to go to ‘Main Menu’ in the right-hand column to see it. Click on– Get Dusty Competition- (Year)-(Month-category-challenge)’.

The guest judge is asked to email the results and the associated comments to the secretary (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) once their decision is made. 

The judge is asked to select the following:

1st place

2nd place

3rd place

Honourable mentions (HM):

8 or 9 entries, one HM

10 or 11 entries, two HM

12 or more, three HM

Although every participant can enter two paintings, only one of them may place.

If there is to be any variation to the closure date for any of the competitions, such as Summer or Winter competitions, which generally run for two months, the judge will be informed accordingly.

Clarification on any of the above may be obtained by contacting the secretary or any other member of the board.

Checklist for Get Dusty entries:

•Artistic merit/originality - is the choice of subject matter and/or approach (within the given theme) original?

•Drawing - does the artwork show sound drawing skills?

•Pastel Technique - does the pastel technique used suit the subject chosen?

•Composition - is it a good composition?

•Tone/Value - are the values good?

•Colour - is the use of colour effective for the subject chosen?

•Edges – has the artist used a good variety of edges, and where appropriate?

 

When you search for an article, please use the "Search"-Bar. When you type your search term then a window will open. It´s easier to find anything if you put in "Tags".

How can I see tags?

The tags are visible if you click on the article or if the article is shown using the navigation buttons. If it is featured and first article they don't show up.
