We met this elderly Chinese woman from the countryside on the Bund, Shanghai's famous riverside promenade. She was visiting her grandson who asked us if he could take a photo of her with my 6'4" husband. Her many wrinkles, her bow legs and small frame bore testimony to the hard life she must have led as a farm girl under Mao's Great Leap Forward. Remarkable that she still kept a twinkle and a kindly smile!
