Description

Title : A Glowing Legacy

Medium : Soft pastel on dark UArt400

Size : 27x22 cm

Date Completed : 14th July 2020

Inspiration : I always find such rare facades and somewhat dilapidated windows aesthetically interesting. I’m not too sure from which era but possibly pre-war or colonial architectural influence. Adding to its character is an rather out of place good-sized plant- ie on its roof gutter. This stretch of old heritage shoplots is situated at Gambier Street in the north-west of Kuching town and facing the Sarawak River. It is one of the oldest and busiest streets in Kuching. As it was around the golden hour then, I couldn't help but snap some photos of this during one of my Cuti-cuti Malaysia (travel local, travel Malaysia) escapes on 10th September 2018. Our original intention was to take an evening stroll and to witness the sunset in East Malaysia - ie. Kuching waterfront.
