Albeit a depressing year dominated by the COVID-19 threat and all that goes with that, plus having my eyes diagnosed with Macular degeneration and an episode of Shingles for the last eight weeks I was pleased to receive some good news, for as well as being a proud member of the Pastel Guild of Europe I have now been elected a" Juried Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America (PSA)".
So may celebrate by trying harder to get a haircut.

I am delighted to announce a solo exhibition of my pastel work, beginning this month.

Almost a year in the making, 'Deeper Waters' is a collection of seascapes and waterfalls depicting the landscape and coastline of Northumberland as well as work inspired by a recent journey to the Outer Hebrides in Scotland.

My fascination in depicting movement is embedded in my background as a moving image designer but more recently this has evolved into more personal expressions of emotional states, against a backdrop of global pandemic and political upheaval. Whilst some pieces appear calm and almost tranquil, others rage and boil. It is this constant change of physical and mental state that keeps me returning to capture water.

'Deeper Waters' by Award winning Pastel Artist Fiona Carvell, is at Gallery 45, Felton, Northumberland UK. NE65 9PP.

September 5th-November 6th 2020.

'Meet The Artist' Saturday 12th September 1-3pm. Please contact the gallery for details and to book.
