PEACE a Celebration
Image information
Description
The rose called peace created by French rose breeder named Francis Meilland in 1935 and was identified as "3-35-40" when WW2 was looking to be inevitable he sent cuttings of the rose to fellow rose growers in the United StatesAmerica for safekeeping.
Following May 8th 1945 (VE Day) and Europe was once again at peace Meilland asked Field marshal Alan Brooke who was part of the Commonwealth and liberation forces if he would consent to his name being given to the rose, he modestly declined, saying that he had merely been a cog in the war machine and in his opinion a more appropriate name would be PEACE.
